Duta Besar Uni Eropa dan Perwakilannya Kunjungi Kebun Sawit Asian Agri

Agrofarm-Kementerian Luar Negeri Republik Indonesia bersama dengan Badan Pengelola Dana Perkebunan Kelapa Sawit (BPDP-KS), Pemerintah Provinsi Jambi dan Universitas Jambi menyelenggarakan Program Eksekutif Kelapa Sawit untuk para Duta Besar negara-negara Uni Eropa. Program yang digagas Badan Perencanaan dan Pengembangan Kebijakan, Kementerian Luar Negeri Republik Indonesia ini diikuti oleh berbagai pemangku kepentingan di industri kelapa sawit.

Asian Agri, sebagai salah satu pemangku kepentingan di industri kelapa sawit, mendapatkan kesempatan pertama untuk menjelaskan mengenai praktik-praktik kelapa sawit yang berkelanjutan di kebun yang berada di Tungkal Ulu Jambi pada tanggal 16 April 2018, kepada para Duta Besar serta Diplomat dari sembilan negara anggota Uni Eropa.

Kunjungan ke kebun kelapa sawit dan Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Biogas (PLTBg) Asian Agri dipimpin oleh Managing Director Asian Agri, Kelvin Tio, yang mendemonstrasikan komitmen perusahaan dalam mengelola seluruh kebun dan operasionalnya secara berkelanjutan, sekaligus juga melibatkan petani plasma dan swadaya untuk meningkatkan hasil produksi dan kesejahteraan hidup mereka.

Saat menjelaskan proses penanaman kelapa sawit, Kelvin menggarisbawahi pentingnya benih berkualitas untuk material tanaman dan kesiapan lahan untuk memastikan potensi hasil panen per hektar yang optimal, dengan praktik pengelolaan terbaik mencakup aspek teknis, manajerial, lingkungan serta sosial dan politik.

Menanggapi kampanye negatif terhadap kelapa sawit, Asian Agri menekankan komitmennya terhadap keberlanjutan yang berwawasan lingkungan. Perusahaan mengadopsi NDPE (No deforestation, no peat development, and no exploitation) menjadi kebijakan keberlanjutan perusahaan dan sepenuhnya patuh terhadap kebijakan dan standar keberlanjutan yang ditetapkan oleh badan nasional dan internasional seperti ISCC, RSPO dan ISPO.

Anggota delegasi dari negara-negara Uni Eropa juga mengunjungi Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Biogas (PLTBg) di Tungkal Ulu, satu dari tujuh PLTBg yang telah dioperasikan untuk memberikan pasokan energi listrik terbarukan ke lokasi yang jauh dari perkotaan. Perusahaan berencana untuk membangun dan mengoperasikan 20 PLTBg di tahun 2020.

Vincent Guerend, Kepala Delegasi, Duta Besar Uni Eropa untuk Indonesia dan Brunei Darussalam, mengatakan, Asian Agri telah mengoptimalkan seluruh prosesnya. Setiap pekerja di kebun tahu apa yang harus mereka lakukan disetiap proses untuk mengoptimalkan kedua hal yang penting yaitu kelangsungan perusahaan dan pengelolaan kebun dalam jangka panjang.

“Kami akan terus membeli minyak kelapa sawit selama produknya berkualitas, namun dalam jangka panjang kami harus memastikan bahwa produk tersebut diproses secara berkelanjutan. Kuncinya adalah saya percaya, Asian Agri memiliki tujuan untuk mengoptimalkani hasil panen yang lebih tinggi per hektar, dengan tidak memperluas lahan yang diperuntukkan sebagai hutan. Kita harus dapat mengupayakan keseimbangan antara hutan dan lahan yang ditanami,” kata Guerend dalam keterangan resminya, Kamis (19/4/2018).

Dalam hal keberlanjutan, Asian Agri mendukung implementasi dari SDGs, dengan menjaga lingkungan melalui konservasi dari keanekaragaman hayati, tanah dan air, pengurangan gas rumah kaca; kemitraan dengan petani untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan hidup mereka; upaya mengurangi penggunaan zat kimia; dan memastikan lingkungan kerja yang sehat.

Sesi diskusi dengan para petani plasma dan swadaya memberikan gambaran nyata kepada para Delegasi Uni Eropa bahwa kemitraan terbukti berhasil meningkatkan produktivitas serta kemampu telusuran rantai pasok serta membangun kapasitas petani untuk dapat meraih sertifikat keberlanjutan.
